BIOGRAPHY

Seiko Kamosawa was born in Tokyo and grew up in Yokohama, a port city of Japan. While growing up there, she was exposed to various international cultures. She especially engaged with Indian culture by pursuing her undergraduate degree in South Asian studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies majoring Hindi and South Asian Studies. During the stay for a year in Delhi, she visited museums and galleries and started developing an interest in contemporary Indian art.

Following her passions, she then went to study Indian art history at SOAS at the University of London and also studied drawing and painting at Royal Drawing School. Later, she decided to return to India to join Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda as an Indian Council scholar, pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. It was at this university that she also earned master’s degree in painting in May 2019. She had her first solo exhibition at the Japan Foundation in New Delhi in June 2019 to present the culmination of my six-year practice and research in India.

Since August 2019, Seiko has been living and working in the USA. After she studied at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia for a year, she was awarded fully funded scholarship for her MFA at the University of Delaware. She also has been teaching drawing and painting as a teaching assistance for undergraduate classes in the same university.

Seiko's interview was broadcasted in Rajya Sabha TV on my solo show at the Japan Foundation, New Delhi, June 2019. It starts from 17:20 to 22:41 of the video.

Though the interview was conducted by Hindi, the announcer explained some description in English in between the interview.

This video shows the summary of Piramal Art Residency in Mumbai I participated in August 2016. My interviews start at 3:20 and at 8:04 in the video.
